FIONNA CARLISLE (b. 1954) is a Scottish-born artist whose immediately recognisable work - often of flowers, her native Caithness or portraits of the great and good - demonstrates both an incredible skill and freedom with paint; and, just as importantly, a uniquely masterful artistic-eye.
"few artists in Scotland have work that vibrate so much with colour and powerful brushwork, and that is in the country that gave birth to the colourists. Fionna Carlisle has taken their traditions and loves and gone further with them - literally to Greece rather than the south of France, but to new places too… with her paint."
Tony Davidson, Director of Kilmorack Gallery
CARLISLE was born in Wick in the far North of Scotland. She then travelled south study at Edinburgh College of Art and now lives between Edinburgh and Crete.
