SHONA BARR (b 1965) is a Scottish artist whose work vibrates with energy. BARR’s loose and colourful brushwork, and her deeply-felt inspiration from the natural world, make her one of the most ‘painterly’ and evocative artists in Scotland.
Most of BARR’s paintings begin in watercolour outside, au plein air, where she seeks out the colours, light and essence what originally inspired her. These smaller works are then taken to her studio and used to create large and impressive canvases, that somehow retain freshness and energy of the watercolour. It is her rare, bold and direct approach that makes this possible and these paintings so captivating.
BARR graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1988.
