Paul Kershaw was born in 1949 in York, trained for the teaching profession in Newcastle upon Tyne and spent twelve years as an art teacher before leaving to concentrate on his own printmaking. He began wood engraving , self taught, in 1985. So far, most of his work is a personal response to the landscape of N.W. Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye, his home since 1986. He publishes his prints, black and white and colour ones, in limited editions printed by himself on a Colombian press. He became a member of the Society of Wood Engraves in 1990 and exhibits regularly in their Annual Exhibition. In 1994 he was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter - Printmakers.
