Hamish Mackie is an established young British sculptor known for his animal and figurative bronzes. Inspiration stems from Hamish's love of wildlife and the natural world around him.
Hamish describes his sculptures as coming from a tradition - the original being closely observed from life and finished in bronze. His method is loose, fast and energetic creating his own intepretation of the subject this enables him to capture their power and movement. Earlier this year he travelled to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya where he sculpted the Elephant, Cheetah, and Black Rhino in the bush.
Hamish, born in 1973 is largely self taught as a sculptor. He grew up on a farm in Cornwall and began sculpting at Radley College, before going on to study at Falmouth School of Art, and Kingston University. Hamish is a member of the Royal British Sculptural Society and has his work in collections around the world. He works from his home in Oxfordshire where he lives with his wife Laura, daughters Isabella, Matilda and
dog Pepper.
