Pinkie Maclure

Rewilding at the Clootie Tree, 2016
stained glass
59cm x 56cm
Rewilding is the idea of reintroducing extinct animals and habitats to try and heal the damage done to nature by centuries of human intervention. Atlantic puffins, capercaillie, slender Scotch burnet moths, emperor moths, small copper butterflies, small tortoiseshells and chequered skippers are critically endangered. Irn Bru and oil rigs are not, yet. A clootie tree is a tree beside a holy well, where people hang rags (cloots) thought to heal the sick as they rot. Nowadays, people sometimes mistakenly hang synthetic rags, which obviously ruins the whole idea. I’ve put my own signature on one of the rags, as my fingers always get cut making stained glass. Despite this inconvenience, it’s still a healing process for my head.
