Northwest: A solo exhibiiton of new work by Beth Robertson Fiddes
Mountains and waves, the slow time of hills and the ceaseless waltzing of oceans, Beth Robertson Fiddes' work captures something instantly recognisable but hard to name. We have called this exhibition 'Northwest' because these paintings started with the landscape around Robertson Fiddes' studio north of Ullapool; before the oils, acrylics and inks; and the scrubbing and layering; processes that mimic the land, brought these sea-worlds and mountain-worlds to second lives in large canvases.
These paintings were created this winter and early spring (2026) and both look both outwards to the waves of Reiff, Durness and further afield and in the other direction, inland, to the moors, waterfalls and mountains. Very few artists have captured the cinematic, sensual and musical beauty of Scotland as well as Robertson Fiddes.
