Overview

Jane MacNeill's keen eye looks at her native Cairngorm mountains, a place of granite hill and cloud. In the 1990s MacNeill's work captured angel-like beings appearing where the boundaries between worlds is thin. In the last few years she brought this subtle use of oil paint to animals, especially animals she had made eye contact with. MacNeill elevated the power of these small creatures, haloing them with gold-leaf. In this new body of work MacNeill has moved on to paint the Cairngorms of her childhood. It combines all the power of her previous periods - showing the subtle bordering energies of the landscape and making smaller everyday things significant.
