JANE MACNEILL | New Work: Cairngorms - inspired by water and land

27 June - 25 July 2025
Overview

We are pleased to share with you Jane MacNeill's latest wonderful paintings. In this collection of fifteen works, MacNeill's inspiration comes from Cairngorms where she grew up, and the water as well as their rounded mountains. Water, she suggests, gives a depth and suggests possibilities and mysteries.

"These are paintings about some of the watery places in amongst the Cairngorm Mountains, those ancient and rounded hills which seem to embrace in their valleys a rich variety of meadow and moor, fields of bog cotton and scented myrtle, forests of pine, birch, aspen and ancient oak, and an abundance of water.

When water is introduced to a landscape, a new dimension can open. Water invites interaction with the land. It promises a depth which can suggest many possibilities both physical and imagined, or even spiritual. Water represents a mystery which can be entered."
